U2的这首One，按照Bono本人的说法，最初是他有感于基督教（泛指）对同性恋的歧视和迫害。上帝的所谓人间代言人（教会，教堂）将同性恋的信徒从教堂里丢出去，社会对他们冷眼相对，甚至连家庭都将他们抛弃（歌词中的the lepers, 就是指的这些人）。这就是所谓You ask me to enter， But then you make me crawl的含义，就是指社会虚伪的仁慈。
One总共拍了3个MV，第一个版本（失落版本：孤独、无助、死亡……）U2全部女装上阵，立意很明显。Bono的父亲在MV里面一直是一张冷脸，象征着家庭社会对同性恋的态度。第二个MV（狂野版本：野性、生命！）是北美野牛的那版。一群野牛在一起，吃草，走动，打架，然后一起冲下悬崖。第三个MV（大众版本：生活、爱情……）据说因为知道第一个美国电视台绝对会禁播，第二个估计不会吸引观众之后专门为了吸引观众拍的，也就是那个出名的Bono in the Bar版本 。
