Joe Satriani（乔&middot;塞奇尼）1956年7月15日出生于纽约长岛，在他过完14岁生日不久，他心中的英雄吉米&middot;汉德克斯去世了。失掉偶像的乔绝定退出高足球队拿起吉它。自学三年后，在他居住的长岛，他成为当地的吉他英雄。他的校友Steve Vai背着一把5美元的吉他来拜访他，要跟他学琴。Vai同样是位出众的吉他大师，后来在事业上的成就比Satriani有过之而无不及。他后来参与录制了Satriani的几张白金专辑：Flying In A Blue Dream，The Extremist和Time Machine，他是Satriani最喜爱的学生和吉他手。
